Yorkshire Water has faced a cascade of enforcement actions: a £40m Ofwat enforcement package in March 2025 for systematic wastewater failures constituting a 'significant breach of legal obligations'; a £733k court fine in February 2026 for three repeat sewage spills killing fish at Pools Brook; £2.25m in additional enforcement undertaking payments to charities in 2026; and Ofwat's original August 2024 proposal to fine the company as part of a £168m multi-company action — making it one of the most penalised water companies in England.
